Park Facts
Parks play a pivotal public health role in overcoming many obstacles facing communities. They provide:
-
Contact with nature known to confer certain health benefits and enhance well being;
-
Increase physical activity and reduce obesity;
-
Mitigate climate air and water pollution impacts; and
-
Provide a diversity of health benefits to area residents.
We will establish a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified park for area residents to participate and enjoy. The park will blend aspects of health and wellness into sports, education, and entertainment activities in a venue environmentally sustainable and energy efficient.
Need for Parks
People value the time they spend in city parks, whether walking a dog, playing basketball, or having a picnic. Along with these expected leisure amenities, parks can also provide measurable health benefits, from providing direct contact with nature and a cleaner environment, to opportunities for physical activity and social interaction. A telephone survey conducted for the American Public Health Association found that 75 percent of adults believe parks and recreation must play an important role in addressing America's obesity crisis.
